This site just contains pieces of information from games I've played which I felt worth putting up on the web, and sometimes links to where more complete information can be found.
The term "RPG" is short for role-playing game, and describes a genre of games in which the player plays the role of one or more characters in a story (hence the name). Tbe object of the game is simply to progress through the story and (hopefully) bring it to a good end. Traditionally, RPGs have primarily been based in medieval-style fantasy worlds, with knights, dragons, princesses, magic, etc., but this is no longer a universal; a good number of modern RPGs use worlds of a more science-fiction flavor or even take place in a fictional version of our own world.
The major difference between RPGs and other video game genres is the "story" element. Other types of games may include pieces of background information to give the game a setting, but focus more on the gameplay aspect. RPGs, on the other hand, concentrate on the story aspect, with higher-quality RPGs having characters as deep and believable as any good novel. (They do, conversely, often suffer from gameplay deficiencies; this has the unfortunate consequence of earning RPGs lower-than-deserved marks from game reviewers who do not understand the unique traits of RPGs.)
